A new Sonic game is being developed

According to a reliable source, Sega is reportedly working on a direct sequel to the 3D platformer Sonic Frontiers from 2022.

Sonic Frontiers, with all its weaknesses, provided an acceptable experience for fans of the 3D games of the Sonic series. Even before releasing Sonic Frontiers, Sega made it very clear that the future of games in this series will be based on this open-world platformer. After Frontiers met its creators' expectations in terms of sales figures, it's safe to say that Sega will stick to its plans. In fact, it now appears that a Sonic Frontiers sequel is in development.

This rumor was first reported by Daniel Richman , a well-known whistleblower. He claims that Sonic Frontiers 2 is in the works but isn't necessarily known by that name. Midori, another reliable Sega leaker, has also confirmed the news, noting that the game is considered a sequel to Sonic Frontiers in terms of gameplay and overall structure. Of course, it should be noted that the first Frontiers game was also known as Sonic Rangers until the time of its official introduction.

It is not yet clear when Sega will unveil this game. Especially considering that this company has several Sonic series games under development. Sonic X Shadow Generations is one of these, which is set to launch this fall. Sonic X Shadow the Hedgehog is a remake of the 2011 3D platformer Sonic Generations, featuring a new standalone campaign focusing on Shadow the Hedgehog. The age rating of the game in South Korea probably indicates that this video game is in the final stage of development and is not far from release.

Also, the movie Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will be released on December 20, 2024 . James Marsden as Tom Wachowski, Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic the Hedgehog, Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik, Colin O'Shaughnessy as the voice of Tails,  Idris Elba as the voice of Knuckles, Keanu Reeves as Shadow the Hedgehog are among the actors of this film. Of course, before that, Sonic fans can wait for the Knuckles series, which will be broadcast on April 26 (May 7) on Paramount Plus.
