Nintendo and Pokemon are seeking damages from developer Palworld

Nintendo and Pokemon companies filed a complaint against Palworld, demanding to stop the release of this best-selling game and to receive damages.

The popular game Palworld, which was released in January 2024 and was a huge success, is now facing legal challenges. Pocketpair studio, the developer of this best-selling game, has recently published new information about the lawsuit filed by two major companies, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company.

According to VGC , the two Japanese companies have claimed that the Palworld game infringes three of their patents. It is noteworthy that these patents, which are in the field of gameplay mechanics, were registered between February and July 2024, that is, a few months after the official release of the Palworld game on January 19 of the same year.

"As announced on September 19, 2024, The Pokemon Company and Nintendo have sued us," a statement from PocketPear reads. "Due to numerous requests from the media to know the details of the case, we decided to publish more information."

The plaintiff companies have made two main requests: first, for damages in the amount of ¥5 million plus delay costs for each company, and second, for an injunction to stop Palworld from publishing the game.

The game Palworld, which was released in January 2024 for PC and Xbox, was a huge success and according to the developers, it managed to attract 25 million players in the first month of its release.

PocketPear Studio has announced that it will defend its position in this legal case. It remains to be seen what the fate of this popular game will be.
