Tik Tok CEO: Popular games eventually die out
Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Tik To, believes that the current popular games will eventually decline and that working on new ideas is essential for success.
Take-Two is known as one of the giants of the gaming industry, as the parent company of Rockstar, 2K and Zynga, the franchise owner of some of the best-selling games in the history of the gaming industry, including the GTA series and Red Dead. However, Strauss Zelnik, the company's CEO, believes that relying on the following of popular games and building the company's future on that basis is not the right way to guarantee future success.
Despite the fact that Tic To has some of the biggest collections in the world and the sequels of each of these games are mostly more successful than the previous version, the top executive of this company still believes that the key to success is working on new IPs.
Zelnik believes that even the most popular games in the gaming industry will eventually "degenerate" due to the laws of "entropy". So it's absolutely imperative that we jump into new franchises before it's too late. No matter how risky this work is.
According to the Tech4gamers website , in part of his speech during the company's recent financial report, Zelink pointed out that the release of the sequel of successful games always has a low risk and brings a lot of income. Zelnik admits that Take-Two is one of the companies facing this problem; But this will not always be the case. So this company is working on several new IPs. Although this work involves a lot of risk.
However, some audience members believe that Tik To CEO's statements are not consistent with their practical actions. They recently sold off Private Division, their indie game development division that had published numerous indie games. Indie games are often considered the best breeding ground for new and creative ideas. Also, they have been making maximum income from the large audience of this series with a GTA game for three generations, which does not match Strauss-Zelnik's point of view.
